John Sheridan,
Mental Health Practitioner

When we cultivate self-compassion and practice bringing our whole selves into our relationships, our lives become calmer.

I believe each person is the narrator and protagonist in their story, and by harnessing resilience and compassion, they can cultivate the life they desire.

My areas of interest include trauma, anxiety, shame, relational couples work, and building resiliency and self-esteem. I believe we can face issues alone, yet a relational, collaborative approach will serve us to understand the contexts shaping our views of the world. I practice with a trauma-informed lens and aim to create a compassionate container where clients feel safe to express all their nuanced, complex parts as we together learn how to integrate them in healthy ways.

My approach is calm meets “clear is kind.” I primarily serve adults, both individuals and couples and I utilize various techniques to help you reach your goals.

I’m a second-career therapist who spent the first 12 years of my career in business working in design and marketing. I started my path working in mental health at a community hospital, working with adults with persistent and co-occurring mental health needs. My experience working in different environments has provided me the capacity to attune to what is occurring in the room and how to guide warm yet direct dialogue when necessary.

It’s courageous to acquire a deeper understanding of who you are. If the ocean evokes a sense of calm even when waves are present, maybe so can we.

I am working under the supervision of Jennifer Knapp, MS, LMFT.
