Shannon Halen,
(she/her), Mental Health Practitioner
I believe it is essential for people to have a space that is theirs to feel heard and understood. So many times, folks feel alone and not connected to a support system. People may experience significant challenges when navigating chaotic environments or when they haven’t had the opportunities to learn the skills necessary to navigate life challenges and mental health struggles. This may include skills regarding managing anxiety and depression or figuring out tricky relationships and job, education or family transitions. Therapy can become a place where clients build a support network and a safe space to engage in self-reflection. It is also a place to figure out how to manage life stressors, navigate transitions, learn and utilize skills, and explore and discover strengths. My hope in working with clients is to help people through the difficulties they have faced or continue to experience. I utilize a trauma-informed lens in my practice; I acknowledge the complexity of experiences when collaborating on treatment goals. I take a person-centered and humanistic approach where I believe each person has their own individual strengths that can be drawn on and appreciated. With these approaches, I allow the client to be the center of the session and cultivate a safe environment to be vulnerable in. I pride myself on having a non-judgmental stance and accommodating for humor in sessions while hearing the unique stories of each person. I have completed an externship in Emotion-Focused Therapy which involves specialized training in the impact of attachment on individuals and family systems.
I am currently working under the supervision of Rachel Sobolewski, MA, LPCC, PMH-C.
